Federcoopesca is the Confcooperative organisation for the fisheries and aquaculture sector.
Founded on 15 April 1950, Federcoopesca is the most widespread fisheries co-operative organisation in the country.
Mission
Federcoopesca provides its members with social security, fiscal and legal assistance.
The Federation also provides: technical assistance in the planning and implementation of new production initiatives, applied research, experimentation with new methods, financial assistance to facilitate reorganisation processes and the start of new investments on the part of the member co-operatives.
Federcoopesca is also concerned with the vocational qualification and training of members.
It performs protective functions through a series of contacts with the leaders in the fisheries sector, especially public institutions and government bodies, and also plays the role of contract subject in relations with the employees of fisheries co-operatives.
The true essence of Federcoopesca's task is to offer at all levels, whether in Italy or in Europe, competent, constant and authoritative representation for the member co-operatives.
Membership
To achieve its objectives, Federcoopesca, in addition to its member co-operatives, also makes use of the collaboration of qualified structures operating in the fisheries sector.
C.I.R.S.P.E. (Italian Fisheries Research and Study Centre) which carries out research and applied experiments on production, monitors the ecosystem, does research on marine pollution and studies on the quality of fisheries products.
CO.NA.FI.PE. (National Fisheries Credit Consortium) which provides service for the financial needs of members.
GESTI.COM. S.r.l., which is a company promoted by Federcoopesca to manage the "Italian fisheries product" collective brand.
National and international framework
Federcoopesca plays its role mainly by protecting the needs of the member co-operatives vis-à-vis the European Union, the Ministries, Regions, Local Authorities, port authorities, Customs and other public administrations with responsibilities related to the problems of the fisheries, aquaculture and environment sectors.
At the national level, the intense activity carried out centrally by Federcoopesca contributes to developing an effective link between the needs of members and the general guidelines given by the various Ministries. Federcoopesca is present in the Regions in the same way.
In Brussels, Federcoopesca participates constantly in committees and commissions responsible for drawing up EU regulations and determining structural actions.
In COPA/COGECA it deals with the fisheries and aquaculture sector on behalf of Confcooperative.
Federcoopesca also carries out exchange relationships with associations and firms all over the world.
